Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is designed to help adults 55 years old (and better!) to participate more fully in the life of their community through significant volunteer service. RSVP enables seniors to use their energy, creativity and experience to make worthwhile contributions to others long after their professional careers have ended.

In September 1973, ACTION, the federal agency for volunteer programs, authorized the establishment of the Orange County RSVP. In 1993, ACTION was combined with the Commission on National and Community Service to become the Corporation for National Service.

Orange County’s seniors join over 450,000 others serving in over 750 RSVP projects throughout the country. Nationally, volunteers assist 43,000 local organizations donating over 72 million hours of service yearly. There are 34 RSVP projects in Florida, including our surrounding counties.

Anyone 55 years of age or older interested in helping on a regular basis may join RSVP. There are no income, education, or work experience requirements. There are no membership fees.

Volunteers are expected to report to their assignments on a regular basis and perform their duties under the supervision of the volunteer agency staff. If a volunteer cannot report for an assignment, the volunteer coordinator at the agency should be notified as soon as possible.

The importance of your volunteer time sheets cannot be overstressed. This is the only method RSVP has of measuring your service and is vital to the success of our program. In addition, it identifies the number of volunteers serving at each agency and the hours contributed. Your timesheets also keep your volunteer insurance in force. Finally, reports of your activities help us gain community support for senior volunteers. Please return your timesheets by the fifth of the following month.

All active RSVP volunteers are covered at no cost by supplemental accident and excess automobile liability insurance. In addition, all volunteers are provided $1,000,000 per occurence protection for a personal injury or a property damage liability claim arising out of the performance of the volunteer's duties. Volunteers are covered from their homes to their volunteer locations, during their volunteer service, and on their return home.
